Nicole Heinzel was born to German parents who had emigrated to Bengasi, Libya in 1969 at the start of the Revolution. After living in Iran and in Trinidad and Tobago, the family moved to Scotland in 1978, where the artist spent two decades of her life. Heinzel studied art, design and photography at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee. After seven years in London, the artist moved to Berlin in 2003, and Werder (Havel) in 2017.

Nach Aufenthalten im Iran und Trinidad und Tobago siedelte die Familie nach Schottland über, wo Sie zwei Jahrzehnte ihres Lebens verbrachte. Heinzel studierte Kunst, Design und Fotografie am Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design in Dundee. Nach sieben Jahre in London, zog die Künstlerin 2003 nach Berlin, und in 2017 nach Werder (Havel).
